The Sleeper Residence

Custom design by Carter Sparks in 1975 in Fair Oaks, California.

This home stands as a testament to the timeless beauty of architectural design. Crafted by the renowned local architect Carter Sparks, this unique home has recently hit the market, inviting potential buyers to experience the epitome of modern living. It was purchased two years ago in original condition by a local realtor and his family who tastefully remodeled it with preservation in mind.

A Tranquil Oasis: The Central Atrium

At the core of the Sleeper Residence lies a unique atrium that transforms the living experience into something extraordinary. The core feature of this atrium is a cascading waterfall, which creates a serene ambiance when you enter. This innovative design choice brings nature indoors, providing residents with a constant connection to the soothing sounds and sights of running water and fills the home with natural light.

A Symphony of Design

The Sleeper Residence seamlessly blends contemporary aesthetics with vintage, timeless mid century modern design. It’s hard not to be captivated by the clean lines, expansive glass walls, and the meticulous attention to detail that defines every room in this home.

Integration with Nature

What sets this house apart is its seamless integration with the surrounding landscape. The extensive use of glass allows for an abundance of natural light to flood the interiors, creating a connection between the interior and the lush outdoors. The residence is thoughtfully positioned to capture breathtaking views of the surrounding greenery, providing a sense of tranquility and serenity. It’s very much a business in the front, party in the back kind-of house.

This home is located at 8148 Shangrila Dr and it hit the market asking for $1,275,500. It received multiple offers over asking and was obviously very popular. We were even featured in the Sacramento Bee Article speaking about it. You can see what the house used to look like before the renovation in all-original condition on Carter Sparks Archive. Personally, I preferred the all wood ceiling and orange velour built-in sofa but the new look turned out beautiful too.

We always admire when preservation is the focal point of a renovation. This was so tastefully done and we hope it sparks joy with you as it has for us.
