60 Years of Streng Bros. Homes
2019 Sacramento Mid Century Modern Home Tour
Last summer, I attended the 2019 Streng Brothers Home tour and during this quarantine, i’ve decided to blog about it. This sold out event inspired many and brought the mid mod community together.
A special thanks SacMod for putting it together and to the 6 home owners that allowed over 1,000 people to walk through their home. 👏
Since I’m a member of Sacramento Modern (a non-profit dedicated to preserving modern art, architecture, and design in the Sacramento region) my friend TC and I decided to volunteer as guides for the day. It was a super hot Sacramento summer day but we were stoked!
This tour made my love for mid century grow even deeper. Comment below if you attended!
House #1 - 7754 Greenridge Way - Fair Oaks
Most of our time was spent at the 1959 Carter Sparks designed home built by Stoddard Construction for Rita and Robert E. Wulfert in Fair Oaks. It was a unique tri-level home with a natural rustic mix of materials that brought the outdoors in. It was a dream to see in person and felt much bigger relative to it’s square footage due to the architect’s design skills. This is currently owned by Laurie and Wayne Donaldson who also care for a Futuro home in Idyllwild and a unit at Sea Ranch’s historic Condominium One. Favorite part? Tongue & groove ceilings, George Nelson pendant lights and the floor-to-ceiling windows.
House #2- 5045 Holyoke Way - Sacramento
Next one we visited the fabulous tiki heaven & home of Nance & Glynn where they created a fun and relaxing oasis perfect for entertaining. This 1964 Streng Bros. Classic floor plan felt light and airy. Details include sparkly pool, tiki vibes, colorful accents, glass sliders, clerestory windows, plenty of parking in the carport, and more. I wish I got more photos on this day but we wanted to be present in the moment, take in all the details in and chat with owners and attendees. A special thanks to my friend T.C for being a great sport on this day and modeling for these photos. Thanks girl!
House #3- 5220 Overbrook Way - Sacramento
Juju and Wes’s 1968 Classic Streng Bros home was a gem! The layered xeriscape features cacti, succulents with pinks accents that match their door and decor. Inside was a beautifully curated wonderland with musical instruments, and cool vintage pieces. They had a vintage clothing sale set up in the backyard which we had fun browsing. You can see how much love went into this home and it sure ‘sparked joy’ for us to see it.
It’s hard to pick a favorite, but this one may be it. I loved the exterior, landscaping, attention to detail and that pink door! Follow them on Instagram: @this.pink.door
